What does a paid ads management service actually do?
“We manage your ads” can mean almost anything, which is exactly why the phrase deserves a transparent answer. Here is what a properly scoped paid ads service does before launch, at launch, and every week after—and what no honest provider can promise you.

The short answer
A paid ads management service takes responsibility for the advertising workflow: planning the campaign around a business goal, checking the account and tracking are ready, building and launching the campaign, monitoring it while it runs, making evidence-led optimisations, and reporting back in plain language.
You keep the decisions that belong to you—the goal, the budget, the claims, the approvals. The provider carries the operational work between those decisions. If a provider cannot describe that split in writing, that is your first warning sign.
Before launch: planning and readiness
The unglamorous work before any money is spent usually decides whether the campaign has a chance:
- Objective and audience planning. What should the campaign achieve—calls, visits, enquiries, online sales, awareness? Who is it for, and where can that audience realistically be reached?
- Channel recommendation. The platform mix should follow the goal and audience. A local business with a time-boxed offer, an online shop, and a professional practice need different campaigns—not the same package.
- Account and tracking readiness. Access to the ad account, working measurement, and a landing page that matches the offer. Launching before tracking works means paying to learn nothing.
- Budget guardrails. A realistic media budget, spending limits, and agreed approval points for material changes.
At launch: build, checks, approval
The campaign is built in the account: structure, targeting, creative, and copy. Before anything goes live, it passes quality checks and your approval. Campaign creative and copy can be produced as part of the service, or you can bring approved assets if they meet the requirements of the placements being used.
One detail worth insisting on: the ad account should be yours. You grant access; you do not rent your own advertising history from a provider.
After launch: what “optimisation” really means
Optimisation is the most abused word in advertising. In a scoped service it means something specific: monitoring the signals the campaign actually produces, forming a hypothesis about what would improve results, making a change within the agreed scope, and watching whether the evidence supports it.
It does not mean daily heroics or constant rebuilding. Early in a campaign, the most disciplined move is often to let it gather enough data to judge. A provider should be able to tell you what they changed, why, and what happened next—every time.
Reporting: numbers with a verdict
A useful report answers four questions in plain language:
- What did we spend, and what did it produce?
- What changed since last time, and why?
- What do the results suggest we do next?
- Is anything outside the campaign—the offer, the landing page, the follow-up—holding results back?
A screenshot of platform dashboards is not a report. If you cannot explain your own campaign to a colleague after reading it, the report has not done its job.
What no honest provider can promise
Guaranteed leads, guaranteed sales, a guaranteed return on ad spend, or a specific cost per lead promised before a campaign has produced data—none of these are honest commitments. Performance also depends on your offer, website, sales process, market, budget, and tracking, which no ad manager controls alone.
What a good provider does promise: careful management of the agreed scope, evidence-led changes, honest reporting, and telling you when paid ads are not the right answer for the problem you have.
What the service needs from you
Business context, the offer, approved claims, a decision-maker for approvals, access to advertising and analytics accounts, a suitable landing page, and a realistic budget. The clearer these are, the faster a campaign moves from idea to launch.
That is the model behind our own paid ads management service: you bring the goal and the approvals, we carry the workflow, and everything in between is agreed in writing.
